10 Most Expensive Guitars Ever Sold

By on January 21, 2015

Guitar enthusiasts are always willing to pay a decent amount of money for a top-of-the-line instrument that can improve their playing.

The most expensive guitars, though, don’t necessarily help you to become a better musician – but they will absolutely help increase your net worth if you add them to your collection.

While an elite guitar can easily reach a price in the tens of thousands of dollars, guitars with special meanings or iconic histories can skyrocket into the hundreds of thousands, and even into the millions, of dollars.

The ten guitars featured here are (with few exceptions) instruments with illustrious histories, and in many cases, these iconic guitars helped shape rock n’ roll.

#10: 1949 Fender Broadcaster prototype – $375,000

Fender is one of the most recognizable guitar brands in the world to date, with their Telecaster and Stratocaster models used by everyone from novice guitarists to some of the best rock guitarists in the world.

In 1949, Leo Fender – the man behind the company – produced this prototype called the Broadcaster, which would eventually be the forefather of the massively popular and influential Telecaster.

This guitar was one of the earliest know models that led to the current day rock n’ roll guitar, making this prototype a special piece of history.

Obviously a one-of-a-kind item, this prototype Fender model was sold for $375,000 to one very lucky guitar collector.
