#1: Robert Guelpen’s Model Lamborghini Aventador – $4.72 million

Sometimes the world just doesn’t make any sense at all. Lamborghini makes some of the nicest luxury cars in the world, and their latest model, the Aventador will run you $397,500. Yet, this “toy” Lamborghini costs more than TEN TIMES the price of an actual, functional Lamborghini Aventador.

Please, shake your head in disbelief with me here. This 1/8th scale model of the Aventador is constructed of materials that cost more than $3 million – and that is all without the hours and painstaking craftsmanship it takes to make a realistic Lamborghini clone.

This absurd model car is made with approximately 700 diamonds embedded into each seat. Carbon fiber makes up the car’s body, which is all coated in fine threads of 24-karat gold. The suspension is hand-crafted from solid gold. The car’s rims are made from solid platinum. The steering wheel and headlights are coated in diamonds. And yet, this car is completely non-functional, making it perhaps one of the most ridiculous displays of useless spending in the history of the world.

The only good thing here? The majority of the proceeds from this model car went to charity.

If you want to teach your kid about cars, you can pay nearly $5 million for this one-of-a-kind toy car. Or, you know, you can just wait til his 16th birthday and buy him a fleet of 5 Lamborghinis instead; it would be much cheaper.
